I don’t know what I want, OK?

Data can be powerful at times, but making the right educated choices based on every single fact found on the internet is not an easy task.

One of the reasons I joined Mycelebs was because the founder and CEO of the company had a very clear vision:

It was to empower everyday people (people like me!) with data that helps me make decisions.

I can find information on things — whether it may be beauty products, hotels, or movies — without having to go through a 2-hour search on different websites, blog posts, and news articles.

When using search and recommendations,…

I shouldn’t need to know exactly what I want
If I knew, I wouldn’t be wasting time trying to find it.

There should be a variety of choices
I don’t want to see the same things over and over

Recommendations should be based on actual user perceptions
Doesn’t matter if the Times said it was good — is it loved by non-experts like me?

Personally, I do think this is a lot to ask for. But as a user of the company’s services myself, I find that Keytalk does help solve the problems mentioned above. I discover new attributes about my favorite items every day… and sometimes end up finding unexpected favorites too. It frees me from the never-ending cycle of “same old” recommendations.

I hope that in the future, ALL recommendation systems can provide more than just genre or keywords. There is so much possibility out there — the problem is how businesses choose to reveal them.
