The product that I will review today is AI image upscaler by upscale.media. It uses AI to upscale and enhance image files, for FREE! Currently, it seems that they support png, jpeg, jpg, and webp files.

Latest Launch:

Launched over a year ago, it is still one of the best rated products on the site, and provides really simple benefits for the user — without sign in.

How to:

Simply drag and drop the photo of your choice to automatically upscale it by 2 times its resolution. The first photo I used in upscale was a photo of my cat’s teeth. Cute right?

After the first upscaling, I noticed that there was not much change, so I decided to boost the upscale to 4x, and enchance the qualit of the photo.

This is what I got. Now, though I was more focused on my cat’s teeth — it probably wasn’t a fair thing to ask because it was too dark for photos to enhance anyway. Quite noticeably, the fur on my cat’s cheeks became much more detailed.

Here is the final result. It wasn’t as upscaled as I wanted it to be, so I decided to try a different- more easier photo.

This is a photo of my friend’s dog, Brownie.

After the first upscale, I did notice that the resolution of the photo was much better than the first one of my cat’s teeth. Supposing that it uses AI, the photo of a real dog might have been easier to understand than a close up of a cat’s upper jaw.

Upscaled up to 4x with enhanced quality, I could see that the photo became a bit more defined. Still, it wasn’t quite the result that I was expecting.

On the right, you can find that the fur on Brownie’s ears are more defined, as well as the silver buttons and knobs on his clothes and stroller. I felt like the tool would be good for making brighter (actually pretty decent) photos into better ones — rather than making bad, blurry photos into good ones.

Overall Summary:

I found that upscale.media did a great job with providing a very simple, clear platform that wasn’t too uncomfortable to use. As for its quality, I thought that it could do better — but still, it proved to actually do what it claims it does.

As a person who takes sloppy photos using my phone, I would use this tool to enhance special photos like profile pictures or instagram — if necessary. I had a lot of fun, the magnifying glass was definitely part of the good experience.

Utility — Okay. Could be used in daily life.

Ease of use — Easy to use, even without demos or walkthroughs.

Creativity — It would be nice to see how AI is used in the algorithm.

WOW — The wow factor is that they use AI to enhance photos, but I would like to see a bit more of what kind of AI algorithms are used and how it works for a more delightful experience!
