Interaction Design Process blog — reflecting my interaction design process

- What I did during the studio and my thought process
During the interaction design studio, I designed an app that collets water quality data through citizen science method. First, I started brainstorming target users for the app for better user experience. Listing target users help me selecting features and setting goals of my app. I choose acidity, ph level, and level of zinc as a categories for measurement. After analyzing methods to motivate users to participate on collecting data, I draw interaction flow. For my app, motivation for users to keep collect data was by finishing map of the puget sound and getting access to collective analysis. Interaction flow visualize the direction of my app. It helped me to understand the interaction between users and my app. Designing prototype was the trickiest part of this activity. I searched images and other examples to get inspiration for my app design.

2. Difficulties that I encountered during studio
As I designed arbitrary prototype for citizen science research, I started to question about technical issues. Moreover, I wanted to implement existing app design feature that users are familiar with. Although I used smartphone on daily basis, I got confused on choosing interaction elements for my app. Since I never participated on citizen science project, I felt my lack of knowledge on usage of an app. After this activity I learned that facilitating users experience on app design requires a great knowledge on users’ thought process and behavior.

3. Reflection
Learning how to use POP to deliver my design idea was my favorite part of this studio. POP truly ease presentation of my app to the audience. It also motivated me to learn more tools that boost my understandings on users. Using POP mock up gave me a great feedback on my design. By seeing and using my app through POP help me to learn users’ view on my app.
