Ultra is Coming

Pretty much the whole Lumos team has been working from home just like everyone else (and going stir crazy like everyone else!), BUT that has NOT stopped us from working on Ultra, and we’re SUPER EXCITED to be sharing more details about it with you now.
If you’re new to Lumos, you’re in the right place. This post will get you up to speed as to who we are and what we do in a jiffy. If you’ve been following us for awhile, welcome!
With no further ado, introducing the Lumos Ultra
All the core features that make a Lumos helmet great, at an accessible price point
Integrated Lights: 3 Bright COB LED Modules
Integrating lights into a helmet has HUGE benefits including:
- Better visibility and safety. They’re naturally at the highest place they can be, where they are most visible above obstacles such as other cars, and we’ve designed our lights such that they are visible from 360 degrees around you so you can’t be missed.
- Better convenience. Skip checking or mounting your bike-mounted lights. Just wear your helmet, turn it on, and ride. Simple.
- Better peace of mind. Rolling 3 products into 1 means it is that much easier to keep track of, not lose, not forget, and not get stolen.
Not just that, but a huge side benefit we’ve found is that having our lights in our helmet makes us much happier and more willing to want to wear a helmet in the first place, making it much more likely that we’ll actually be wearing a helmet if the worst happened.
Signal Your Turns: Integrated Turn Signals
Cars have turn signals, why not bikes? Drivers often have a tough time seeing or understanding our hand signals. Lumos address this with integrated turn signals so that drivers know your intentions, and give you space.
Smart and Connected
You can use your Lumos Ultra just fine without pairing it to your phone, but with the phone app you can do even more cool and interesting things with your helmet such as:
- Monitor and get notifications about your helmet’s battery life (important so you never run out of juice during a ride)
- Create new brightness and flashing settings on your helmet — Do you want the brightest lights, or the longest battery life? With the app you can have both by customizing your own settings.
- Have the app automatically track your rides whenever your helmet is on.
Easy Recharging with USB-C
The rechargeable battery is integrated and is easily charged with USB-C.
It’s Water-Resistant
The electronics are sealed and water resistant so you can ride with Ultra rain or shine.
Fully Certified for Gold Standard Head Protection
Ultra will meet the certifications for use in the US, Europe, and Australia, and come with the MIPs Brain Protection System as an optional upgrade.

We ran a survey with the Lumos community a few weeks ago giving people a sneak peek at Ultra and get their feedback. Engagement was incredible, with well over a thousand responses to our survey. At the end of the survey we asked people to guess what they thought Ultra would cost.
The responses were interesting.
- 88% thought that it would cost > $150
- > 50% thought it would cost > $200

Great question!
We’ve been working on Ultra for over a year now, and recently ran an early test run with pre-production prototypes of Ultra and completed a beta test with 40 beta testers from around the world including the US, UK, Germany, and Switzerland.
With lockdowns all over the world, ironically the bicycle has become one of the most viable means of exercise and transportation and so our beta testers have been able to get some good use out of their helmets over the last few weeks.
We asked them: “What would you share to someone thinking about getting an Ultra?”

I have been following Lumos products since the first helmet came out on Kickstarter, and I believe the Ultra is the best one yet.
