This is a PSA to open your streaming app of choice and add these four Austin based acts to your queue. While spending time at our Austin office, we were in search of bands that blew doors during their live set. It’s no secret that there is no shortage of incredible live music in ATX, but we wanted to give a special shout out this month to The Watters, Whiskey Shivers, Summer Salt, and Greg Mullen. They have our hearts, and they will soon have yours too.

The Watters

The Watters, Facebook

‘Americana husband/wife duo The Watters have been playing music together for 12 years, writing for 8 and have 6 albums together. Imagine Fleetwood Mac, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Rilo Kiley merging into one dynamic supergroup, and you will start to get an idea of The Watters unique Americana/Soul sound. The Watters have garnered a devoted fan base through their high-energy performances, well-crafted songwriting, stirring vocals and road-weathered musicianship. Their songs are webbed in a world of truth and wonder with a timeless spirit.’

Whiskey Shivers

Whiskey Shivers, Facebook

‘Voted #1 Bluegrass band in Austin in 2018, Whiskey Shivers is one of the most entertaining live performances in the Southeast. Whether they’re playing at a backyard house party in Texas, a punk-rock dive bar or a sprawling country music festival, crowds take notice. People put down their phones, pick up their drinks and start dancing. “Whiskey Shivers isn’t just the five of us on stage, it’s everybody in the room,” Fiddle player Bobby Fitzgerald says. “We try to bring everybody into the moment and get them to realize there’s no wall between us and the crowd. We’re all in this together, and we’re all here to have a good time. We’ll do our best to facilitate it, but it takes all of us to make it happen. When you start to feel that, you can’t help but feel a little attachment and become invested in the show. You realize, ‘Oh, I’m here to have good time too!’’

Summer Salt

Summer Salt, Facebook

‘Self deemed “coral reef rock”, Summer Salt delivers a retro blend of bossa nova and 60’s oldies pop. You’ve probably heard them on a Spotify playlist or two, because they are blowing up. A must see band before the warm weather fades, which shouldn’t be hard because they are touring all over before the end of the year.’

Greg Mullen

Greg Mullen, Facebook

‘Greg Mullen’s mind works in mysterious ways. From his seemingly effortless and nonchalant stage charisma to his unorthodox folk song topics and lyrical combinations, once you see a Greg Mullen show you’ll be a fan for life. It’s safe to say Mullen is lending a hand in ushering folk and americana music into the 21st century, breaking all sorts of traditional cyclical trends, freshening up and freeing the genre from it’s shackled origins. His lyrics are relatable and not only to a late 1920s great depression farmer. His emotional and musical intelligence gives the feeling of a talented edge that cannot be learned, but only gifted by the grace of God. Mullen’s wit and heartfelt songs create an experience that engage a spectrum of emotions simultaneously. He’ll make you laugh, make you tear up, make your heart sink, and most importantly make you glad you had the opportunity to experience his earnest musical grace.’

We hope you enjoyed our picks. You can learn more about these Austin artists on EVAmore if you so please.
