Thoughts on Fridalandia

Fridalandia transforms itself from real life into a disneyland of imagery — it becomes a haven for the everyday media consuming American. We like color and moving pictures and lots of excitement — exactly what Favela gives us. This Las Vegas-like Disneyland playground is just a little bit fake — there is little resemblance to the everyday life of Frida Kahlo. We are transformed by the storybook nature like backyard, while we become misinformed as to what Kahlo really lived like. We must remember that sometimes the advertisements we consume are created for the pop-up-jack-in-the-box technique that pleasure our eyes, and Hollywood draws us in with glitz and glamour and anything but the truth.
