Maintaining a healthy lifestyle for children is a matter of paramount importance, as it directly affects their development and well-being, both physically and mentally. A balanced and healthy lifestyle can provide children with the necessary tools to develop physically and mentally, while helping them to successfully cope with the challenges of everyday life. In this paper, we will explore in detail the importance of healthy living for children and present practical tips for adopting a holistic lifestyle.

· PHYSICAL HEALTH: THE IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND GOOD NUTRITION

Children’s physical health is a fundamental issue that needs to be addressed with great care. Regular physical activity is vital as it helps to develop muscles, bones and cardiorespiratory function. Encouraging children to participate in various sports activities, such as football, dancing or swimming, not only improves their physical condition, but also develops social skills such as teamwork and communication.

At the same time, proper and balanced nutrition is crucial for children’s development and health. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, proteins and carbohydrates will provide them with all the necessary nutrients for smooth development. Avoiding processed foods and limiting the consumption of added sugars and fats are also important for maintaining a healthy weight and preventing chronic diseases.

· MENTAL HEALTH: THE IMPACT OF LIFESTYLE ON CHILDREN’S MENTAL WELLBEING

Just as important as physical health is children’s mental well-being. The lifestyle they adopt can have a significant impact on their mental state. A balanced lifestyle that includes adequate sleep, enjoyable recreational activities and quality time with family and friends can help develop self-esteem, resilience and the ability to manage stress.

In contrast, excessive use of digital media, exposure to negative stimuli or lack of social interaction can lead to problems such as depression, anxiety or social isolation. It is therefore necessary to establish healthy routines and encourage children to develop healthy mental habits and to express their feelings in a safe way.

· BALANCE BETWEEN PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH

Maintaining a balance between physical and mental health is vital to children’s well-rounded development and well-being. An approach that focuses only on the physical dimension, without taking mental wellbeing into account, is incomplete and can lead to long-term problems.

1. Physical health

Physical activity and good nutrition are crucial for children’s development. They build muscle strength, physical endurance and flexibility, while preventing chronic diseases.

2. Mental Health

Mental wellbeing includes the development of self-esteem, the ability to manage stress and mental resilience. A healthy lifestyle that encourages emotional expression and social interactions is vital.

3. Holistic approach

Physical and mental health are inextricably linked. A holistic approach that takes both dimensions into account is essential for children’s all-round development and well-being.

· PRACTICAL TIPS TO SUPPORT HEALTHY LIVING IN EVERYDAY LIFE

1. Daily Physical Activity

Encourage children to participate in regular physical activities, such as outdoor games, cycling or dancing, for at least 60 minutes a day.

2. Balanced diet

Provide a variety of nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats. Limit your consumption of processed foods and added sugars.

3. Healthy Sleep Habits

Ensure that children get the sleep they need (9–11 hours a day for school-age children) and follow a consistent sleep routine.

4. Quality Family Time

Set aside time for enjoyable activities with the family, such as playing, reading books, or playing group games. This helps to strengthen emotional bonds.

· THE ROLE OF PARENTS AND SCHOOL IN PROMOTING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Parents and the school environment play a key role in promoting a healthy lifestyle for children. Parents are the primary role models and can establish healthy habits at home, while schools can implement programs that encourage physical activity and healthy eating.

1. Role of Parents

Parents can model a healthy lifestyle for their children by adopting a balanced program of physical activity and nutrition. In addition, they can encourage children to participate in team sports and limit excessive use of digital media.

2. Role of the school

Schools can play an important role by providing physical education programs, school meals with healthy options, and mental health seminars. In this way, they strengthen children’s health knowledge and skills.
