Wooden floorings lend a feel of sophistication to a home’s interiors. However, with so many choices available — factory-finished, unfinished or engineered — it becomes difficult to choose the one that fits perfectly with your decor. Many people are still not aware of engineered wood. In this article, we are discussing the many advantages of engineered wooden flooring:

A more stable construction: Interior designers and building constructors know the secret behind the good looks and stability of engineered wood flooring — it is built in layers. A thin layer of engineered wooden flooring is glued or bonded to multiple layers of high-density fibre boards. The multiple layers of the boards also provide stability to the top layer giving it a longer life as compared to wooden flooring.

Cheaper than traditional hardwood flooring: The top hardwood layer makes the flooring look as beautiful and glossy as traditional wooden flooring. However, since only the top layer is real hardwood, it is less expensive to buy.

Resistance to moisture: The upper plywood or fibre board layers do not crack or flex easily when exposed to moisture or water for prolonged periods.

It is more environment-friendly: There’s a hue and cry against the felling of trees for timber. The environmentally-conscious individuals and groups advocate reduced use of wood to save the trees from being indiscriminately cut. The top layer of engineered wooden floor is sliced instead of being cut with a saw, thus, lessening the wastage of wood. In addition, the trees that are needed to make the core of engineered wood laminates or floorings grow faster than the trees cut down to make traditional hardwood floorings.

Easy installation: Unlike traditional hardwood laminates that need to be stapled or nailed to the floor, engineered laminated floorings are much easier to install. However, for better and long-standing performance, you may consider glueing them to the floor.

Ease of maintenance: The hassle of maintaining hardwood laminates has led many people to discard them in favour of engineered bedroom laminate floorings. Since these laminates do not warp or crack easily due to moisture or retain dust or allergens, maintaining them is far easier. Though the top layer may require sealing and waxing, the frequency is less when compared to traditional hardwood floorings.

High resale value: Wood retains its original value despite being old. The same holds true for engineering wooden floorings. Since they are made of real wood and make the interiors of a room look cosy and classic, there are higher chances of getting a better resale value than plain laminate or vinyl floorings.
