The Transformation from Peace of Mind to Playground
Introducing Playground, a Montreal based design and data driven agency.
I want to start by thanking everyone who has supported Peace of Mind Media throughout the last 6 months.
It is amazing to look back and see where we were back in October 2017 vs where we are now. There is no doubt that we will continue to learn, grow and amaze ourselves as time passes.
Changing the company name has been on my mind for a few months. It just no longer felt right. After discussing with the team, I saw that I wasn’t the only one with that feeling.
Why Peace of Mind Media in the first place?
The picture above shows the first logo design that I made using Logojoy, an “AI-powered logo maker.” It was never published because once Jerry Zhu (creative director) joined, he very kindly offered to redesign it…and made it a lot better.
There was no deep meaning behind the name.
Simply put, I wanted to give clients peace of mind. It was a promise that working with us would be a peaceful process and would allow our clients to focus on other areas of their business.
Many people liked the name.
Why Change it Now?
Although it has only been 7 months since the company started, I’ve experienced and read enough to know that true creativity is not a peaceful process. In fact, a certain amount of chaos is necessary to arrive to something great.
I define chaos as the moments of uncertainty, brainstorming, and drafting that come with every idea, proposal, and design.
There are no rules (or very few) and our task is to take the brand we’ve been given and visually represent it in the best way possible.
We believe that a healthy amount of debate is required to ensure that we capture the true essence of the brand we’re working with.
This is also the culture that I am trying to instill. Debate and conflicting ideas are welcomed by everyone as long as we are able to back them up with an explanation and it is done with respect.
With that in mind, the name Peace of Mind no longer fit that ethos.
Why Playground?
I had a meeting with members of the team and we were discussing the name. We all felt out of touch with the current one. After some time, the idea of Playground resurfaced.
Playground was the name for a holding company I aspire to create in the next 10 to 20 years. It would be a collective of companies under my wing.
I realized that I don’t even know what is going to happen tomorrow so why save the name for something 10 years from now.
Playground also fit with who we are: a group of people that enjoy what we do and want to make a living out of it.
Think back to when you were younger. For many of you, the parc or playground was where you learned a lot of real-life lessons and had a lot of fun. Just because we’re older, it doesn’t mean we have to stop learning and having fun.
What does this mean?
We’re still going to make the process as smooth as possible for our clients, but it’s important to note that the road to creativity and quality is not a perfect one.
We’ll get our hands dirty, push ideas we believe in, and be constructively critical with each other. All with the goal of providing quality to the client and work that we can be proud of.
On that note, we look forward for what the future holds and we hope you follow us on this incredible journey.
Feel free to interact with us, either physically or virtually!
The world is our playground, it can be yours too.
Playground is a full-service design & data agency.

I’ve been documenting the process by posting on my Instagram story a picture or video every day of me doing something relating to my company. I’ll be doing that for 365 days.
