Is N.T. Wright Anti-Jewish?
A Recommendation to Avoid Wright’s Writing

Above were the words of N.T. Wright at a scholarly lecture entitled “Finding Jesus in the Shema”
N.T. Wright, a British New Testament scholar, is arguably the most famous Biblical theologian that is known in Christian circles today.
Wright, who is for some reason known as “Tom” in evangelical and conservative circles, has written a ton of literature on early Christian origins.
Wright had his scholarly start in and was heavily involved in the study of the historical Jesus while at Oxford University in the UK.
Wright is someone that is painful for me personally to read because after about 50 pages of most of what he writes, I feel as though his presuppositions in approaching the text essentially create a work that is more confessional and therefore less scholarly in nature.
But for the purposes of this article, let’s return to his quote/claim about the Shema.
The Shema
The Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4) has traditionally been translated as “Hear, O Israel: The Lord, your God, the Lord is one”.
