complex means
Is Solving Problems the Ideal of Democracy and Capitalism?
John Boik

Actually “complex” means that when the parts that make up something that is called “complex” are separated, it becomes impossible to figure out what would happen a priori when they are put together.

An example is the brain, for an alien seeing the brain divided into individual neurons could never guess what it is capable of until put together.
