It might be small, but I am actually in a civil discussion with a cousin that thinks Charlottesville “is not America” but the heroism in Houston is. He still supports this President. It may be one person, but he is also an influencer in his rural community. Maybe, just maybe I’ll get through a little. We did not speak for years after Sandy Hook after a public screaming match about the 2nd amendment. After a family funeral, we saw two humans in ourselves, hugged and started a civil debate right away. Fingers crossed. Just as women ask men to speak up against misogyny, white people, drowning in privilege, need to open up their mouths, minds and wallets every time. Articles like this motivate me to be a better citizen and I am listening, I am learning and I agree 100% the onus is on me to create the world I want to live in with my beautiful, amazing friends of color. Thank you.
