Recently, I’ve tried going on a github streak. Yes, I want those little boxes to shine at least a small tint of green for as long as possible, maybe even 365 days in a row. Is this selfish? Yep. Some days I turn decent code into decent code (that looks better, maybe).
But you’re totally right. Just returning to the code day after day gets the creative juices flowing. All of a sudden, I hit that voilà moment. OHHHH, I can actually re-factor this to fix that bug which has been turning users away. And then all those little dumb changes are worth it, because they lead to a hard-bought moment of epiphany. Self-indulgent? Sure. But if the trail of crumbs lead to the big cheese, it doesn’t really matter. Great insight.
