THE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY — ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS/MOVIES

The part 2 of the final episode of The Hunger Games was released last month, making more and more people take notice on the movie. Coupled with Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong last year, people in Hong Kong has keenly concerned in such a revolutionary movie recently.

In the books/movies, the main character Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) were drawn to be the tribute of the 74th Hunger Games. They went through a lot in the arena and succeeded to be the last survivors. However, since only one winner is allowed and Katniss was the one who tests the rule, she had been monitored and blackmailed by the evil president Snow after the game. The capital leader asked Katniss to be the person she was in the arena, who was pretending in love with Peeta. For the sake of her love ones’ life , Katniss actively acted what she should do and finally fell in love with her fellow tribute. By diverse actions,Katniss successfully convinced all people,including the president,that she loves Peeta. Yet, That is the weapon the capital takes to hurt Katniss! President Snow took Peeta away from Katniss and tortured him psychologically and physically to mad, making Katniss suffered mentally. In the meantime, there are uprisings in several districts. One of the districts had been planning a rebellion for many years,and they needed a symbol for the revolution. Katniss was the best choice after rebelling the capital in the arena,therefore,she was forced to lead the revolution against the dictatorial capital. In the final stage,an army and a squad led by Katniss and Peeta head to the Capital.They succeeded and the capital was taken down by the rebels.

As a dystopian story, it successfully sets up an environment like a hell, in which all residents may have the chance to join the Hunger Game and then fight to death. Since there was a failed rebellion 74 years ago, the game was made to remind people not to rebel against its government. This time,the rebels take the failure as an experience,use Katniss as the symbol,take the incident Katniss had in the game as a fuse. Plenty of people then went to the street,leading uprisings to insurgence.
