Traveling Trifles: That Stunning City I Went to— Prague

Mid-summer night and the most incredible Prague city.

It was the end of July and I had just finished my summer semester at Germany. I was trying to out-plan my last three weeks at Europe.

Prague, the city that was famous for its architecture and history, impressed me and had me at hello.

The long, long traffic—

I was in Prague for three days, but to be exact it was actually two days because I arrived at noon the first day and left at noon as well in the last day.

I remembered the first day there very well, it was a rainy day with strong winds blowing. To save money, I took the train (Deutsche Bahn) from Frankfurt to Nürnberg and transferred to the bus cooperated with DB from Nürnberg all the way to Prague.

On the bus, there were only around ten people, the car was nearly empty, and except for me, the rest were mostly elderly europeans.

During the time I traveled in Europe, my best, best friend were definitely Spotify and earphone because the best and the toughest thing I experienced there was solitude, so it makes sense that I needed music to accompany me all the time.

Tick and tock, after six or seven hours of train and bus rid, I finally made it to the heart of Czech Republic — Prague.

It took me some more time to reach my hostel, I could not really remember the tram stop near the hostel, but I could vividly remember the slippery slope I had to climb every time I went out or went back.

The hostel was about twenty minutes away from the Hbf (Hauptbahnhof, aka central station), not too far, and the room was quite nice — cozy, spacious, additionally, I met a great roomie for one night! She was a Slovakian girl who went to Prague for her master’s paper. Why? Because she was fond of Prague, and found peace there that enabled her to keep on writing her paper, really cool, wasn’t it?

If I live next to Prague, I would really like to spend a week or two there finish my paper haha!

The friendly Taiwanese I met —

After unpacking all of my luggages, I could not resist the hunger and looked for the Asian food at Prague. Based on my instinct, I thought there would be at least one Taiwanese restaurant in a big city, therefore, I checked Google Map and saw the restaurant called “”.

You could not imagine how much a person could miss his/her home cuisine when they had been traveling and studying somewhere far away for too long (though I definitely know that 6 months probably meant nothing to lots of people ><).

As I walked into the restaurant, the clerks brought their menu to me and told me to sit wherever I wanted. At that time, I was trying to figure out if they were Taiwanese or not, since in Poland, the clerks working at the Taiwanese restaurant were europeans and some asians that didn’t speak Mandarin.

“Order whatever you like, and please call me when you’re ready!”

“Are you guys from Taiwan? I mean, telling from your accents.” I blurted out my question, revealing how much I wanted to connect with people.

“Yeah, we’re all Taiwanese, we applied for the working visa to work here (in Prague) for one year. I just came here! They have all stayed here longer than I do.”

lecker dishes- fried tofu

I was quite impressed because that was the first time throughout the six months in Europe that I saw so many Taiwanese people in a room. Then, I ordered popcorn chicken, fried tofu, braised pork with rice and a cup of Czech beer. Those were a lot for one person actually, but I was too happy to consider my appetite.

After the dinner, I tried to talk to the waiters there, “at least a chance to make some new friends,” I told myself at the moment. The try turned out to be really good, since they were all incredibly friendly and told me lots of things about Prague, as well as the experiences they had and the people they met.

The chef suggested me to witness the night view on Charlie Bridge, “sheerly fantastic” he described, a must-see view at Prague, so I went to Charlie Bridge at last, even though it was already nine at night.

At first I had prepared to visit the sight by myself, but then something happened.

To be continued…
