I am so glad to see you tackling this. I grew up in Dallas and now I live in the SF bay area. And it makes me sad to see how the people here think of the south as a place with easy racism and evil, abusive whites… yet I now live in an area where I can go weeks without ever seeing a black person. That’s racism. It’s harder to spot and it’s easier to pretend it’s not part of life.

And I think that relates, in some ways, to why Sanders struggled with minority votes. When white liberals can pretend that class issues matter more than race, it’s a symptom of the way we ignore the problem.
