VP Harris Now Heads the Democratic Ticket, All Democracy-Loving Americans Must Support Her

I was lazy-scrolling through Gmail when I saw the breaking news headline from Raw Story, “Biden announces he’s dropping out of presidential race.”

My Sunday afternoon suddenly took quite the turn and I felt compelled, even inspired to dust off my Medium page (I hadn’t written in months) and post this — but not before sharing the link to the Raw Story article in my “Mom + Girls Chat” on WhatsApp. One of my sisters instantly chimed in, “Cynth!!!!” — her enthusiastic written response to the manifestation of my prediction of Biden’s likely departure from the race posted in our group chat not 12 hours before.

It didn’t surprise me that President Biden would step down; I just didn’t know when it would happen. With reports of the mounting pressure inside the Democratic Party for him to exit the race, I’ve always felt that Jill Biden would have a hand to play in him deciding to leave. Obviously, I don’t have any evidence of the First Lady ultimately stepping in and encouraging her husband of 47 years to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, but I believe that any loving and devoted wife, as Jill appears to be, would not take pleasure in seeing her husband endure such public and private scrutiny about his health and fitness for office.
