Joe Kaplow

Joe Kaplow, a Santa Cruz-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, weaves the raw essence of life into his music, creating songs that resonate with authenticity and soul. His third full-length album, Posh, Poodle, Krystal and Toe, aptly named after his bandmates’ nicknames, marks a significant evolution in his musical journey. This record stands out as a more cohesive band statement compared to his previous self-recorded work, capturing the synergy and spontaneity of live performance.

The album’s creation is a testament to Kaplow’s commitment to authenticity. Recorded over five days at the OK Theater in Enterprise, Oregon, with engineer Bart Budwig, the tracks were learned and workshopped on the spot. This method resulted in a collection of songs that embody honesty, energy, and a ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ spirit. Mixing the record underground at Vin Christopher’s studio, Heavy Meadow in Portland, Oregon, further added to its unique character.

Kaplow’s music is deeply rooted in life’s simple yet profound moments. He draws inspiration from the scent of freshly cut grass, the steam rising from a horse’s breath in the early morning, and the tactile joy of holding his guitar after a day of labor. Whether it’s 4,000 acres of freshly burnt wildfire or the Pacific Ocean’s misty breath at dawn, these experiences shape his sound, infusing it with a sense of place and time.

Watch him perform live at the Pie Shop on June 04, 2024 from 8:00p onwards as part of the ongoing Joe Kaplow tour.
