New York Summit — Part 2
End of August the next ‘Organizer Summit’ will take place in New York. An event which will be attended by several hosts of Creative Mornings from all around the world — a get together of different nationalities, languages and mindsets. This clash of cultures will make it a very interesting and dynamic gathering resulting in creative, inspirational and efficient outcomes for everybody.
Nadine Prowaznik, host of CM in Cologne, and part of her team will attend this event. They are full of excitement to “meet all again, exchange ideas and to make new contacts” as Nadine tells us. As you may have already read in the previous article a huge programme is awaiting them at the Summit Camp, located half an hour from NYC.
Issues arising
However, Nadine is quite in a conflict with herself. First of all, they have to finance the whole trip on their own, despite the fact that the event itself is sponsored by global partners like Adobe, MailChimp and Wordpress. Facing the lack of financial support, only part of her team is able to participate. Beyond that — to generalize this thought — depending from where you come from, the travel expenses vary a lot. This unveils huge inequality in regards of circumstances among the CM community as the travel requires ahigher investment e.g. for hosts from Hong Kong, than for those living in the U.S. On top of that, the expense of approx. 200€ only for the Camp might be feasible within Germany however, not all nations live within the same level of income.
The fact that from 188 CM cities only 60 participate in the NYC Summit, doesn’t that already reflect the grievance? Wouldn’t it be more pleasant if that number would double or even triple? She questions the situation and struggles with comprehension. Would there have been another option for the sponsors to give the hosts at least a little financial support to travel to NYC, for the accommodation etc.? Is that something to suggest in future?
Furthermore, there have been some issues with the right of entering the country. At least one city is not allowed to enter NYC due to new regulations and that is why they won’t be able to participate at the event, even though they are CM hosts.
‘Creative Mornings is a place where everybody is creative and welcome’
That spirit is the base of the whole format, but is it given in that very situation? Shouldn’t all hosts be able and enjoy the freedom to attend the event? Those are questions which probably will be left open.
Nadine and her team decided to attend the ‘Organizers Summit’ in NYC to set a statement: “We attach great importance and are ready to support the exchange with different countries and cultures. That is why we want to support those friends in the USA who think as open-minded as us!”
