Always Forgotten

One thing authors always seem to forget when discussing the M14, is that it remained for decades as THE battle rifle of the US Navy.

The M14 served two roles in the Fleet that the M16/M4 was never capable of accomplishing: it was an essential in shipboard security roles where the ability to fire thru steel walls and doors was beyond the capacity of the week 5.56 round of the M16 platform, and it ability in the “gas-propelled grenade launcher” … a capability that allows it to be used to fire a plastic projectile trailing a synthetic line that is used to bridge the gaps between ships for underway replenishment.
