I felt a tinge of hope to stand strong with fellow New Yorkers that night. As NYPD announced through megaphones that anyone in the streets would be arrested and charged with civil disobedience, as they attempted to form barricades and snatch bodies, they could not stop the thousands of people from spilling into the streets, shouting their support for Black Lives Matter, for Standing Rock, for LGBTQIA+ equality; shunning rape culture, capitalism, fascism, police brutality and white supremacy. After the past few years of protesting racial injustices in NYC, it felt like the collective will to take over the streets and face unjust establishment with courage and conviction ran naturally through our bloodstream.
Dear white liberals: why are you here?
