You are really comparing apples and oranges.
jQuery was great when most browsers weren’t. Now that modern browsers have picked up the pace again there is simply no use for jQuery.
Keep using jQuery and you will lose touch with common vanillaJS techniques and add unnecessary complex syntax to the very basic task that you where trying to write.
I would agree with a hypothesis somewhere in the line of; You don’t need framework X. Because, as you described, often a framework like Angular or a view library such as React and Vue or used on a website/page that have a combined smaller size then the initial load of the library.
I still love everyone who ever worked on jQuery it was great and very useful.
But browsers have grown up and can ride their big bikes now.
