Practical Motivation for Self-Help Haters

Todd, another very well-written and focused article! What’s interesting is that I was also wondering what’s wrong with the motivation trend these days, and also wondered why it didn’t really work. If it worked, why are there so many (millions) of books and yet, people are still unsatisfied with their lives, sad, unhappy and keep struggling. Aren’t self-help and motivational literature supposed to make us better, happier? People keep buying them in the hopes that the yet another book will be better than the previous one.

There is an amazing visual effects producer, Andrew Kramer, who said that motivational books and seminars are like candies — something like empty calories, but still boost your mood for a while. I highly recommend the video he features in his personal website. He doesn’t talk about motivation, but hard work! It always comes down to that!

I did write a similar article on the topic (it’s on my blog though, not on Medium), since it’s not really well-written or well-structured.

But still, to contribue to the topic — what motivates me? Work!! Lots of work! Smart, hard work! And when I see the results, that’s even a better driving force!

Great topic!
