Know The Difference Between PSD and PSB
When working with Adobe Photoshop, you may come across two file formats: PSD and PSB. While both formats are used for storing and editing images in Photoshop, there are some key differences between PSD and PSB that are worth understanding. Let’s take a closer look:
PSD (Photoshop Document)
PSD is the standard file format used by Adobe Photoshop. It stands for Photoshop Document and is suitable for most projects, including regular-sized images. PSD files have a maximum size limit of 2 gigabytes (GB) and are commonly used for web graphics, digital artwork, and print designs.

PSB files can handle massive resolutions and are suitable for projects like ultra-high-definition (UHD) images, panoramic photos, or large-scale print designs.
The primary difference between PSD and PSB is the file size and resolution capacity. PSB files have a significantly larger maximum size limit, allowing for immense dimensions and file sizes. However, it’s worth noting that PSB files may not be as widely supported by other software applications or older versions of Photoshop.
PSB Characteristics;
- File Size can be up to 4 exabytes (4 billion GB)
- Height and Width of 300,000 pixels
- Suitable for projects like ultra-high-definition (UHD) images, panoramic photos, or large-scale print designs.
When deciding which format to use, consider the requirements of your project. If you’re working on regular-sized images or designs, PSD files will suffice.
