Welcome to my blog

ello my name is Dhruv Parekh and I am a thirty something year old professional living in Zürich, Switzerland. I created this blog because I have a particular interest in following the finance and energy (being mining, oil, gas and utilities) sectors, and I’ve felt the need to write about them for a long time. Today my long-standing ambition comes true..

I am a chartered accountant (CA) by profession and have held several finance related positions in the energy sector since then, here in Switzerland and in London, England (where I’m originally from). I completed by Bachelors at the London School of Economics.

The energy sector is dynamic at heart, ever evolving, and influenced by numerous factors such as economic, social, political and more. As I write this post at the beginning of 2017, we are emerging from a year that has witnessed multiple commodities price lows, demand on the rocks and oversupply. This was offset by the latter half of the year that quite simply saw the opposite; firms losing less money on a cash basis due to higher futures prices and immense cost reduction programs and business transformations. Whether prices are high or low or demand is up and down, one thing is for sure, we are all impacted in one way or another by the actions of states, industry conglomerates and relevant market forces through our daily lives.

There are of course many themes and topics which I would like to discuss and I will try to write as many posts as I can each month. In the meantime please enjoy reading my blogs and if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the relevant sections of this webpage.
