This is a really nice and small museum where Gustave Moreau lived! It is located on Rue de la Rochefoucauld in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. The museum was originally Moreau’s residence, by his decision in 1895 his apartment was converted into a studio and museum with his apartment remaining on the first floor.

Gustave Moreau was a French symbolist painter who mostly focused on biblical or mythological figures. This painter is also considered by many artists as the pioneer of the symbolism movement. So we can say that almost all of the paintings here are related to mythological elements.

You can also come across exhibitions in the museum from time to time.

Also, this museum is like a “hidden” museum so there are not many people.

You are not obliged to do a reservation before going there. it is pretty affordable and if you are a student or a resident of the EU, between the ages of 18 and 26, it is free for you!
