Realist, idealist love.

Still as hopeless, still as romantic, just a little less fated.

I grew up believing that true love/soulmates was all destined. Something that was weaved into the stars. Two people who were meant to be from birth, that kind of cheesy stuff. Then I got my heartbroken and I stopped believing in love. Which was a mistake, because true love, soulmates, that crap exist. But not in the way that I thought when I was younger.

You don’t always get to choose who you’re attracted to, but you get to choose who you continue giving your heart to. Love is as much a choice as it is a gamble.

What most people fail to understand is that nobody belongs to anyone. People belong to themselves. There is no ownership, only control.

Which is why true love is rare, because it requires both parties to relinquish control. For love to be true it has to be mutual. Both parties make the choice to give the other their hearts. True love is willing. You don’t have to, but you want to give parts of yourself to someone else. True love doesn’t require one person to give more than the other. True love is equal, and in that way true love is pure.

That’s not to say that true love is everlasting. Time has a way of changing people, along with hearts. So when true love never stops, thats what I call soulmates. Cheesy, right? I don’t really care, because thats my idea of love.

And because I don’t yet fully understand the nature of souls, I can’t say for sure what is and what isn’t. This is only an idea. But it is an idea that puts the power of love in your hands, not in the hands of fate. Or a flying baby shooting people with arrows, who might I add should go to counseling for flying around shooting people with mystical arrows of love.

There are a lot of uncertainty that comes with life. I can’t say that my soul won’t change after I die. I can’t say that my soul isn’t changing right now. My energy might get recycle and mixed with other energies, becoming a completely different entity altogether. I most likely won’t even remember this life. The only certainty I have is now, this lifetime. Some people are lucky enough to find true love, and have a soulmate to live out their life with. If you find that you are part of the others, remember that you have your own soul to tend to, and thats something rare within itself.

Like I said, I don’t yet fully understand the nature of souls. So maybe there is a soul that resonants with yours eternally. Maybe there is an unknowable force that pulls two people together. And maybe that love does get carried on through lifetimes. Don’t take my word for it, or anyone else’s word. Explore it for yourself. And no matter what happens, remember to always take care. Keep the light alive, because you never know what lies on the other-side.
