HOW DID I END UP HERE?
Whenever someone asks me-“what is the craziest thing you have ever done in your life?”- I always tell them the story of how San Francisco trip came to life.
Even until now as I look back to that journey, I cannot believe that a 19-year old me would fly out to the other side of the world. And it is even more surreal when I think about how the planning and buying a plane ticket only took two days to process and in a matter of a week, I landed in the Fog City. “Why did I do it?”, I keep on asking myself. I never really had the exact answer provided in my mind but I do know in my heart that this is the right thing to do. Yes there is fear and anxiety of what the trip has in stored for me but excitement and peace in my heart dominated over all the negativity.
I’ve always wanted to travel and see the world while I still can, while I am still young. I remember skipping eating out with friends or taking public transport instead of driving just to save money. I would work for days non-stop just to keep most of them in stored in my bank account for no reason. I would just save, save, save but never really found a purpose of doing so. Little did I know that I was actually saving up for something I know I would treasure forever. It is the opportunity to visit America and stay there for seven weeks. Going there did not only motivate me to travel and explore other countries even more but it also taught me to save money for experiences no material thing could suffice. Yes I know, there are pictures of different countries bragging their beauty to the world circulating the Internet but wouldn’t it be cooler to see it with your own natural binoculars- your eyes and capturing it with your own camera? I would say that travelling do not only give me personal stories I can pitch in during a catch up coffee dates with friends but it also trains me to be more understanding and open-minded of different cultures.
Moving on, I believe that travelling is not just all about seeing every destination’s specialties but it is also about seeing and analysing your inner you. You get to really learn who you are when travelling. You learn to be more understanding. You learn to be more open-minded about things and not judging people nor their circumstances nor cultures based on what you see in the media. You learn to be content. You learn simplicity along the way. You learn gratitude, discipline, respect, forgiveness and self-control. You learn that even though the world is a messy place, humanity always still finds a way to make it better. You learn that creating a better version of you requires hard work, flexibility and commitment. You learn the importance of time to people. You learn to manage your own time and prioritise important things. You learn to give up things that won’t let you grow. You learn to thrive. You learn to appreciate your close friends, families and relatives. You learn to give people you had a small quarrel with another chance. You learn that you are not the only population in the world. You learn that the world is not a place to take for granted. You learn that learning does not have to come from books but also from experiences.

This was supposed to be a blog about how I got to San Francisco. I apologise for not following the protocol. LOL. I got carried away. I will for sure continue to write more about it in the future. For now, this is all I’ve got. I need to get back to my assessment.
Learning is never a waste of time,
Ezra.
Funny enough, I am actually currently looking for a ticket to New Zealand. So New Zealand blog up next? haha!
