Providing San Diego students a cost effective alternative to using Uber and Lyft

For many college students, finding ways to lower expenses is an absolute must. One of the largest, especially in a city like San Diego, is often transportation costs. Owning a car in the city can be a huge drain in resources, with the added responsibility of things like maintenance costs and insurance quickly eating away at a student’s limited funds.

This has led many to turn to services like Uber and Lyft — a method that can become unexpectedly costly, when things like paying higher fees during busy times are factored in again and again.

The good news is a “middle of the road” solution does exist between owning a car and using taxi services, in long term car rental.

Here at Express Rent a Car we have a great respect for our community in San Diego and students are a vibrant and vital part of that community. It’s really our pleasure to be able to help students solve their transportation problems with a service that meets their real needs, while respecting their budgets and financial concerns. It’s the best kind of win/win.

We did our own research on the subject, along with interviews to see how we can best work with the student community. Main benefits San Diego students most often cite when it comes to using long term car rental over Uber, Lyft or other cab companies are:

  • Less expensive in the long run, especially considering Uber and Lyft sometimes throw in hidden fees, like “high demand” and “surge price”
  • Long term car rental option opening the doors to possibility of taking longer trips without breaking the bank
  • Express Rent A Cheap Car being very convenient for foreign students (and non-US citizens in general), offering special deals made specifically for them

However, car rental advantages over cab services aren't necessarily limited only for long term usage.

We found that a number of students in San Diego area like to use the rent a car option when going on group trips, as they can easily get an 8-passenger van to drive around for a day and after evenly splitting the fee, the entire trip can come out significantly cheaper than using Uber or Lyft — you can check out our car rental rates and do the math yourself. :)
