Federal Fashion Market
When viewing Federal Fashion Market I tweeted a lot about what audience the artist was trying to attract and represent. My biggest question was “If this is supposed to represent a young Hispanic population, how does this culture change as the population grows older?”. To dive deeper, I would like to know how older Hispanic-American people would feel about this piece and if they find it an accurate representation of their culture either now or in their own youth. It seems to me that older generations would accept the religious aspect of the piece but wouldn’t be able to identify with the materialism of the t-shirts and the nail art. Especially in old age, people lose interest in defining themselves with material things. Material things are a large focus in this piece but find myself as a young person being able to identify with it. I think older generations would prefer their culture to be represented more by the concept of family and less by “things”.
