He was determined to change everything! Men are blind to the truth! The essence of life is constantly forgotten and sacrificed on the altar of fleeting pleasure and material abundance. Unfortunately, imminent death can only help one realize what is truly important and it is often too late to go back. However, time is sometimes given and the clock starts ticking again. That was the case with Peter!
He felt like he was born again! The hospital room was the start of his new life! Happy and relieved, he immediately began to make plans. Well, first I have to visit my parents! I haven’t talked to them for a while! Then, I think I’ll try to contact my old friends. I’m sure they will be happy to meet with me again! Thoughts were flooding in! However, for some reason, he felt sad. Should I try to find her? he thought, facing the wall.
“I think you should gather some strength first, my friend! Do not be hasty!”. The voice was right. One step at a time and everything will fall into place soon.
“I agree with you”, Peter said. “After all, I’m still in bed and can’t go anywhere”.
The voice smiled and said, “Sadness flows from your heart! What is the matter?”
“It’s true!” Peter answered. “I’m happy and sad at the same time. It’s good to be back safe and sound, but I miss the sweet sense of relief and unconditional love I felt after my heart stopped beating. I don’t think I’ll find something similar in the world of the living”.
“I understand! It is true what you say! However, is this the only reason?”
“It isn’t!”, Peter said and stopped talking. He looked out of the window. It was a sunny day. The trees danced on a gentle breeze and the flowers filled the place with colors.
“Do you know what drives me, voice?” Peter said. “Hope! The chance I have to lead a simple life, repent for my sins and God willing, save my soul”.
“I like what I hear, my friend”, the voice said. “You seem ready to embark on the journey to rid yourself of the old Peter.
“I believe that my work here is done. Your mind is in the right place and your soul yearns for redemption and repentance. It is time to take my leave! However, before I go I would like to give you a last piece of advice. You must first delve deep into your psyche and discover your true flaws and sources of your sins. You cannot fathom the depth of the human soul with all its light and darkness. This darkness is where you must hit with unrelenting force. Persevere and do not let cheap temptations distract you. Your path is yours and yours alone and the only way to carve it is through tears of regret and pain. Set your heart free, my friend! I will be going now, but be sure I will always be with you”.
The voice silenced. The air in the room changed. It truly left!
