These are getting harder to write. This project started as a celebration. But it’s getting harder and harder to celebrate anything. Today’s post brings that difficulty front and center.

When I wrote this song, I was ebullient. The Supreme Court had just come down on the right side of history, ruling that everyone has the right to marry whomever they love. I tried to reflect the happiness and hope in my heart. But trying to recall that now seems so hard. Like it was a lifetime ago. Somebody else’s life.

I don’t mind if you’re ignoring these at this point. I’m trying my best to finish them because we’re so close to the end and I feel like I need to honor my commitment. But, on the other hand, I feel like I could be using the time I spend on these in more productive ways. Helping our country improve. Helping it heal. Progressing. I have no idea what to do, though. What can I do? Where do we start?
