As someone who has followed closely Bret’s “second act” as a public intellectual, it is clear that the Evergreen events are quickly becoming a secondary part of his reputation. He talks less and less about the hoopla, and is mostly engaging grand topics that affect from our personal lives to national politics.
And yet, in August 2018, when Weinstein (and Heather’s) reputation has finnaly decoupled from that curious place in Washington State, someone feels it is necessary to tell him to “let Evergreen alone”. Obviously, the University, with its falling enrollment, with its ever more radicalized faculty and student body, is involved in a bitter exercise of pointing fingers. And the scapegoat that is far away is quite convenient.
