Thank you for your interest!
Your questions are really spot on and I will use them in the upcoming FAQ section of the app.
The first generation uses the Internet connection of your device to make and receive calls. That is either the WIFI or your 3/4G SIM data plan.
Offline calls (which means with no Internet) are under development and it will make it into the second generation app.
Given customers’ feedback I will see whether to port the feature to the first generation app.
I have been using Skype for years to call abroad with a Skype To Go number and I built Hoxfon to improve on top of that experience.
As far as I can tell SkypeOut is just a label for calling traditional numbers using your Skype credit,
in that sense it can be an option to call abroad — and there are plenty of other even cheaper options out there —
but it doesn’t really help to receive calls from abroad on your local number. I think you could buy a SkypeIn number to achieve
this goal but it is not clearly evident how to achieve this because it is not by default.
I have also noticed that for some routes buying a SkypeIn numbers is not really cheap.
Overall I would say that Hoxfon integrates better with your device in many significant ways.
For example it helps you receiving calls on your local abroad number in a very cheap and comfortably way.
Receiving costs £0.01 per minute and each call is routed to your device.
The entire app is designed to make this process as easy as possible,
so people can reach you “old school” with a simple local call.
Please let me know if that explains Hoxfon better.
