Ukraine Protests

‘Nationalism’ and the fact that Ukraine has always been a frontier battleground.

The thing in Ukraine scares me. The thing is, it is, and always has been, a structurally weak, agrarian place compressed between Russia, Lithuania, Poland, and BeloRussia, and a few other ethnically-based places. During ‘WWII’ ( a total fiction: WWII was a series of major-power grabs overlayed over civil wars all over the globe, mostly centered around unfinished business from ‘WWI’, mostly involving Russia vs. Japan and Poland), Ukraine degenerated into a civil war so vicious it’s possible, and likely advisable, to view the King Atrocity of the 20th Century, the Jewish Holocaust, as a simple and, ultimately, meaningless side effect of a Ukrainian-based ethnic civil war, propagated by regional ethnicities aligning with greater powers for access to weapons and support, so as to kill each other more efficiently, and killing Jews as largely a perfunctory side effect.

Millions dead in a Ukrainian internicene fight? Chump change. They do it every 20-40 years.

That’s how bad it got in 1943-1945 and well after.

Thing is, how is Ukraine NOT going to sell their new ‘revolution’ as needing powerful backers to succeed in ‘democracy’? the EU is Germany and France; the other side is Russia. Here we have ‘WWII’ all over again.

Who wants to go there? Sure as shit not me. Who in the world is clever enough to navigate between Putin and the EU? I’d guess, ‘Nobody’.

I have no idea what the answer is for Ukraine. But I’ll tell you right now, it’s not going to resemble a Western-style free society, because it can’t. As long as it doesn’t degenerate into an ethnic Cage Match, I’m OK with it.

I’m quite serious. Ukraine is a dangerous place. I have no plans of EVER going there.
