THE BEST TIME TO PUBLISH ON YouTube

If you are taking your first steps on YouTube, it is common to ask yourself if the time of publication influences the number of visits that you will receive your video, and in that case, what is the best time to publish on YouTube.

The first thing I want to tell you is that, the schedule influences. And what is the best time to publish on YouTube, will depend on several factors. So, for example, when I read that:

“the best time to post on YouTube is between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, while between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. is best for Sunday.”

I can do nothing but totally disagree.

Since, these schedules may be true for some channels, in certain regions, and considering certain audiences. But it does not work for all channels in the same way.

For that reason, in this article, I will cover some points that will be very helpful for you to make your YouTube channel close, considering the best schedule published on youtube, in a real way.

DOES THE TIME AT WHICH I POST ON YouTube HAVE AN INFLUENCE?

It is true that, unlike other networks, YouTube can attract traffic even after years of being published. And that by that time, it will matter little the time in which you initially published (if your content was evergreen).

It is also true that the first views are important to give initial signals of interest to the algorithm so that it begins to push and test the content.

So, the time of publication is an aspect to analyze, to plan, and to schedule. But, the best time, as I said, will not be the same for any content creator.

FACTORS INFLUENCING VIDEO UPLOAD SCHEDULE

Composition of your audience on YouTube

Demographics: It is not the same if your target audience is located in the USA, Spain, or in a Latin American country.

Age data: The habits of a teenager, a young person, or an adult will vary according to their lifestyles, professions, routines, etc.

Subscribers: It is not the same if you have 50,000 subscribers as if you are just starting. It is also not the same if the number of subscribers you have has activated notifications or not.

Industry, or niche: The industry, or niche as well, will influence the times you are most likely to be seen in a certain time slot. Imagine that in your channel, you publish content about cooking recipes.

Your content will likely have a high viewership during midday, evenings, and weekends.

Whereas, if you have a channel where you provide movie reviews, perhaps, your content is more likely to be seen between Thursday and Sunday, when people are planning what to see at the movies during the weekend.

Thematic: It’s not just about industry and niche. You also have to consider; the subject matter. For example, let’s say you have a channel where you share audiobooks, meditations, inspirational or self-help content. This content is likely listened to at night, before going to sleep, or in the morning.

Seasons: Seasons also influence the consumption habits of your audience.

Let’s say, for example, you have a channel focused on dropshipping, where you make reviews and recommendations of the best products to sell on Amazon or Shopify.

The rate of views will go up in certain seasons such as Christmas, black day, Father’s day, Mother’s day, etc… also, it will influence if your audience is on vacation.

The same will happen if, for example, your business is in the real estate industry, and within the niche “Airbnb”. And on your YouTube channel, you share content related to, for example, “how to furnish an apartment for temporary rental”.

It is very likely to present an increase in traffic, close to the holiday season, when those who have worked on the development of your business, are already in the final stage of it.

Format: The format is another aspect to consider when you are thinking about the best time to publish on YouTube.

It is not the same if you publish an hour-long video podcast (which will require an extensive session) for which the user will need time. It is the same if you publish a YouTube Short, which can be watched while the person goes to or comes back from work.

Sometimes, extra long content of 2, 3, or 4 Hs, can be very beneficial for your channel if, for example, you share in it; lofty or royalty-free music, or ambient sounds to listen to while you study.

As you will see, there are many factors to take into account to choose the best time to publish on YouTube, according to your channel, and your goals.

Now… How can you find out what is the ideal time to publish on YouTube, based on the analysis of your own channel’s metrics?

HOW TO ANALYZE METRICS TO FIND OUT THE BEST TIME TO POST ON YouTube

If your channel (OR your business channel) has more than 1,000 subscribers, you can, to find out what is the best time to post on YouTube, do the following:

1 — Go to YouTube Studio
2 — Go to “Analitycs”.
3 — Tab “Audience

There you will find a thermal gradient graph, with the hours with the highest or lowest volume of activity on the platform, according to YOUR AUDIENCE.

If on the other hand, you have a channel that is just starting (and you don’t have enough subscribers yet) and therefore, less data…

It will be important that you carry out tests, based on a hypothetical avatar that you would like to reach.

That is, as we said; in their possible behaviors, consumption habits, demographic and age conditions, etc. And how these are linked to the industry, and niche in which you create your content. As well as in the subject matter, type, format of your content, season, etc…

That’s why, when you think about “What time is better”, I recommend you to ask yourself first: What will my audience be doing on such a day, at such time?

After analyzing…

Test, schedule, improve.
