Long-form content and multiple youtube shorts, in this client’s strategy, have allowed him to increase the reach of his channel.

9 BENEFITS OF YOUTUBE SHORTS

If you are seeking to expand your reach or generate income on YouTube, there are 9 advantages that can be of great help to you. These benefits include the ability to integrate with YouTube, reuse existing content, optimize content creation to save time and money, and increase production to attract new audiences.

1 . EXPONENTIAL REACH

During its initial phase, the usage of the Shorts functionality is still low compared to the long-duration content created, due to the limited understanding of its possibilities. However, this represents a significant competitive advantage, especially for creators who have prior experience in shorter formats. They have learned how to package such content in a way that captures the audience’s attention and ensures quick retention. Moreover, Shorts have the potential to reach a vast audience in a short period, enabling creators to gain visibility at a faster rate.

2. YOUTUBE INTEGRATION

As a YouTube content creator, you can easily integrate Shorts with your existing channel. This new feature makes it easier for you to diversify your content and reach out to a wider audience. With the latest September update, you can now link your short content to your longer videos, creating a funnel that encourages your less-engaged audience to become more loyal. This feature is great for building a stronger relationship with your viewers and boosting your channel’s growth.

3. CONTENT REUSE

As mentioned earlier, Short is a feature that enables you to reuse clips or concepts from longer videos. This helps to maximize the value of your existing content and optimize your investment in content creation. Furthermore, it facilitates a crossover strategy between long-form and short-form content.

It’s not simply about recycling your old content, but rather identifying the pieces that have performed well and have the potential to rival other existing content on YouTube. To achieve this, you can leverage tools like VidIQ or TubeBuddy to analyze the likelihood of a video’s title being successful based on factors such as search volume and competition.

4. LONG-TERM DISCOVERY

You can optimize titles and descriptions of Shorts through the use of keywords, just like with long-form content. As a result, they become discoverable in the long term through their integration with Google, allowing your content to attract viewers for an extended period of time.

This means that you can get a higher return on investment in content creation.

5. EASE PRODUCTION

Videos can have varying levels of complexity, but platforms like TikTok allow anyone to create content quickly and easily, without requiring knowledge of editing software or expensive equipment.

The spontaneous and authentic nature of these videos makes them accessible to everyone. This means that content creators can focus on producing a larger quantity of videos, without worrying about how it will perform or reach their audience.

6. ATTRACTING NEW AUDIENCES

To find out where your audience is coming from on YouTube, go to Youtube Studio > Analytics > Traffic Source.

If you enter your metrics, you will be able to analyze that there are different functions by which users reach your content (Search, suggested videos, playlist, notifications, etc.) Youtube Shorts are displayed in the Feed and are shown by algorithmic correspondence in the “For You” tab, which increases the possibility of new users discovering your content.

7. MONETIZATION

However, the monetization by ads within the same platform, for short content, is drastically lower in relation to the income that can be obtained in longer videos…

Due to its wide reach, and the high conversion of viewers into subscribers (as I have been able to verify in the different channels of clients for which I work) YouTube shorts, can allow you to break the initial barrier of requirements to monetize on YouTube that involves joining, to its partner program, which in the last update 2023, established a minimum of 500 subscribers, 3,000 hours of viewing and at least 3 uploaded videos.

That is, I do not see it as an end in itself but as a tool to access other more profitable monetization functions.

8. HIGH INTERACTION

The Shorts format appeals to viewers with short attention spans. While this can be a disadvantage, leading to less engagement, it can also be an opportunity. As they are more likely to react to the content more spontaneously, Shorts tend to have a higher engagement rate and greater interaction with the content, which helps to drive reach.

9. POTENTIAL VIRALITY

There are various factors that contribute to the mass production of content, making it easier for videos to go viral. This increase in visibility and reach is achieved through quantity rather than quality or systematic knowledge.

However, creators who are able to identify common behavioral patterns of their audience can systematize their content to achieve intentional and consistent results. By creating a “formula” and iterating on it, they can produce similar outcomes every time.

HOWEVER, SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KEEP IN MIND…

It’s worth keeping in mind that while YouTube Shorts has its advantages, it’s not without its downsides. In the graphic I shared with you at the beginning of this article, an increase in subscribers and visits hasn’t necessarily led to higher revenue per ad; in fact, there’s actually been a drop.

While this could be due to multiple factors, focusing solely on Shorts could negatively impact your income and even potentially ruin your channel.

It’s important to take into account the downsides of using YouTube Shorts and think of ways to mitigate them. If you’re interested in understanding how the Youtube Shorts algorithm operates, I suggest you read “The 7 Disadvantages of Youtube Shorts that Could Harm Your Channel”.
