What is Dengue Fever?

Dengue fever is an illness. Sometimes it can be life-threatening. Usually, symptoms are found severe headache, fever, vomiting, pain around eye sockets, and joint pain.

How is Dengue Fever transmitted?

The main way of transmission of dengue fever is by infected mosquito bites which name is Aedes mosquitoes. This breed of mosquito is commonly found in stagnant water. When a mosquito bites an infected person with the dengue virus, it becomes a carrier and can transmit the virus to other individuals.

Dengue Fever symptoms

The dengue symptoms normally appear within 6–7 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. The common signs and symptoms include:

High fever:

The first alarming and initial sign in dengue patients is a high fever, often reaching 104°F (40°C) or higher.

Severe headache:

Intense headaches, often described as severe throbbing pain behind the eyes, are common in dengue fever cases.

Joint and muscle pain:

Dengue fever can cause severe joint and muscle pain, leading to tiredness and reduced ability to move.

Skin rashes:

A distinctive skin rash or redness may develop on the torso and limbs. It can vary in appearance, ranging from maculopapular to petechial.

Nausea and vomiting:

Many dengue fever patients experience nausea, vomiting, and a loss of appetite.

Fatigue and weakness:

Dengue fever can cause extreme fatigue and weakness, shaking of the body making it difficult for individuals to carry out their regular activities.

Bleeding or bruising easily:

In severe conditions, the blood vessels of an infected person become damaged and leaky, and platelets (the number of clot-forming cells) in the bloodstream drop. This may cause internal bleeding, organ failure, and even death. In some cases, dengue fever can lead to bleeding from the nose or gums, easy bruising, or other apparent bleeding, irritability and restlessness, and blood in urine or stool.
