KEEPING UP WITH THE DASHIANNERS

The Kardashian-Jenner Sisters

WHO ARE THEY

The photo above are of the Kardashian-Jenner Sisters. They are an entertainment family that rose to prominence back in the year 2007 with their reality television show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Since then, they have gone to build their family’s fortune to nearly $1 billion dollars. But this article is not who they are, but aims at something more than just the who. This article aims at the why; why are they so appealing.

ELEMENTS OF APPEAL

The sisters have a few elements of appeal that make them attractive to so many people who follow them on a daily basis. They are listed below as follows.

  • Age

The age demographic of people that follow the Kardashian-Jenner sisters are young. These are girls to women between the ages of 16 to 30 years of age. Some women also fall into an age range outside of this, further extending into their 30’s. And while so many people that criticize them are much older, the young female generation love these sisters. From the reality television show to Kylie’s lipstick. And the fact that they are young as well with so much dominance in business, it makes them even more appealing.

  • Income

As I stated in the beginning of the article, the wealth that these young women have attained in such a short period of time is appealing as well. Kylie Jenner, the youngest, at only 20 years of age, have already amassed a nearly $1 billion business with her cosmetic line. And with every scroll of an Instagram account, you see the influence of Kylie and her sisters. From the heavy foundation of makeup to the lips and hair. They have greatly influenced the youth of women who are already pursuing their own endeavors.

  • Ethnicity

This is an interesting concept that ethnicity is why they are appealing. That is not to say that they are better because they are White women. It’s just that the majority of women in society are White women. So the masses of young girls are following in the footsteps of what looks like them. And while the sisters have been criticized for their cultural appropriating, the younger generation seems to not be swayed one bit. And with any other ethnic group, they follow the trends of what the majority is in society doing. Unfortunate if you belong to a group of women that are not the majority. But that’s the privilege of being the majority in a nation and the downside of a minority in a society as well.

  • Gender

Men have for so long been the dominant ones in positions of power. So to have these young women bosses being the faces of their own empire is appealing to so many young girls. They are so powerful as women, that their boyfriends and husbands who are in the public eye tend to be overshadowed by their female counterparts. That rarely exist unless you’re talking Beyonce with Jay-Z who is on the same level if not bigger than Jay-Z.

  • Social Affiliations

The last element is their ability to be the “ones” on the scene. If you’re anybody hosting an event, and they are not there, it’s not a real event. Because what’s a social event without the K & J (Kardashian and Jenner) family. We all want to belong to something, and they are seen as belonging to something greater than the rest of us. So especially young girls, they see that and want to connect to that thing that the sisters have indicative of them. So whatever they’re doing that is social, makes not all, but a lot of young girls want that same allure.

CONCLUSION

With so much controversy surrounding the sisters, the younger generation could care less. So many young girls are not interesting themselves with the negative articles written about the sisters. Nor are they interested in the beginning of what launched the family’s face into the spotlight. Young people are engaged with the now; and in the now, these sisters are in part, the standard.
