Entre dos — an Alfajor-maker with its home base in Mendoza, Argentina

The Alfajor is the cookie that defines the café scene in Argentina, and has cafes devoted to it across Latin America. It’s arguably the best cookie in the world if you ask people here — and the world can be taken literally. These sweet cookies can be traced back to Andalusia, Spain, but were introduced there by the Moors (Muslims). Remarkable how colonization eventually made it an integral part of the “diet” here, in Argentina.

They usually accompany a coffee in the late afternoon. No wonder Argentinians are used to only eating at 10pm or later. Alfajores can be filled with a combination of dulce de leche (a milk-based caramel) and chocolate mousse, fruit, and cream. They are often topped with black or white chocolate. We always add one to our Sunday coffee!
