Going the #ExtraMile in-person drop:

I was very excited about the activity because after a long time I was going to drop my resume and cover letter with the company. I experienced in-person drop resume in 2016 and in general that experience was not good. That time I didn’t have any idea about elevator pitch, equip, keeping it real, and how to show passion during the interview. So I equipped myself for the activity and went to International Petrochemical (Pvt) Limited for in-person drop everything went smoothly and for the 1st time I was able to reach for the in-person drop on time with all preparation. I didn’t feel any nervousness because I fully prepared for the situation.

Learning: I learned that a job hunt could be enjoyable if we apply all principle/tips from Amal Fellowship session.

Challenges:

1-I researched the company including its key personnel, business and drafted resume and cover letter accordingly but when I approached the reception desk and asked to meet the HR manager, surprisingly there was no HR manager with the name I researched via LinkedIn.

2-I was fortunate to have the name of another HR manager which I told the reception boy but, that HR manager was working in another branch of the company.

3-Somehow I managed to ask the reception boy that I just wanted to meet the HR manager to drop my resume and cover letter in person. He called the HR manager to inform but the opposite of expectation HR manager asked reception boy to take my resume, cover letter and let me go. I insisted that I want to meet the HR manager and want to have a conversation but all in vain.

Findings: In order to tackle the challenges faced by me next time, I’ll go the extra mile and will try to confirm the online research findings from the receptionist and before going for an in-person drop I’ll ask the HR manager for their precious time.
