I really think most of the theories about radicalization are either nonsense or half truths
This might be a controversial opinion:
I really think most of the theories about radicalization are either nonsense or half truths if they ignore the ideological element that the “radicalized” person grew up with or surrounded by.
As you probably know I have lost family member to AQI and what is now known as ISIS and so many other people I know have but it never came to my mind that I should enslave or assault innocent Muslims as a revenge because it’s WRONG and I was raised and taught in way that harming innocent people is WRONG and YES it’s because of my ideology and the one my parents and family hold.
Revenge is a human emotion that all of us have but joining a terrorist group requires an ideology and the ideology is to BLAME first and foremost for the actions of the individual other than of course mental illness in some cases.
Nothing justfies joining ISIS or al Nusra or any other terrorist group no matter how you spin it in the same way nothing justifies being a white supremacist or a neo nazi.
I don’t mind further understanding of why terrorism happens and research is always a great thing but ignoring the ideological elements is just delusional and harmful.
