Shuvam Bhaiya: Here’s a heads up. Build an AoG.

Me: (AoG??…AK-47 on Grenade?…Is this what seniors meant when they said DSC is going to be a blast?)

Me: Hey…What’s an AoG?

Shuvam Bhaiya: Google it.

Early August, or maybe late July…who cares,…who even wants to care when you have failed to get in your desired college. But anyways I was sad and depressed around that time( Is this the real life?).With that depression I attended even a more depressing first-day orientation of my new college(except the speech made by Swami ji, he was dank!!).The 2nd day was a bit fun because a quiz was held, and somehow my team won by more than 50 points.I must be feeling excited right?? Apparently the reward was a Rs.5 pen which was rewarded even to the team standing last. All this for Equality!!.

This depressing aura was continuing when suddenly a young, charming guy came up to the stage and started speaking. All I heard was “Bla bla bla DSC Bla Bla Bla Google Bla Bla Bla Follow my Twitter Account”(Sorry Shuvam Bhaiya, I was really depressed that day).

“Google?”(Is this some fantasy?)…Did I heard it right?…I excitedly asked the boy sitting next to me,“What did he said just now?”. “Oh!! To follow his Twitter Account”. “I didn’t meant that, idiot!!”. “What do you mean you dont mean that?…He is a 3rd year guy, he is gonna rag you if you dont follow his account”. “But I meant what he was telling about Google?”. “Sorry bro, didn’t heard it”. Not his or the speaker’s fault….we all were just too tired for some unknown reason to even hear our inner thoughts. But the words DSC and Google remained in my mind.(But wait!!…what was the speaker’s name?).

I joined DSC 1 week later after my seniors told me it was going to be a blast!!. The very first thing I got to know after joining DSC was that you dont guarantee a job in Google, Microsoft or even in your local cyber-cafe by joining this Club. But this time, I was not disappointed….because there was some aura which I could feel which told me that I have made one of the beautiful decisions of my life. The seniors like our DSC Lead Shuvam Bhaiya(He was the speaker), Yashashwee Bhaiya, Fazal Bhaiya, Divya Di, Anjali Di, Piyush Bhaiya and many more were so nice to me and funny(Yeah…they were dank too, like the Swami Ji!!) that I immediately decided that Im not going to leave this group even if I don’t get to learn anything here(Which is wrong, because I did learned many things here till now, and will learn many more things in the future).

The initial days of the group, when we were allowed to spam(I really do miss it), were awesome. We had a Meme contest held by Divya Di, which she was going to regret later for the no. of times I irritated her and Anjali Di to declare the Meme King.(I’m sorry Divya Di and Anjali Di…but I really spent a lot of my creativity to create those memes…but again,Sorry). On our DSC summit session, I won a Tinder sticker and a Captain America badge(Don’t ask me why). One day, when I was spamming as usual, Shuvam Bhaiya told me to make an AoG. I had no idea what it was, but I did the way he told me — Googled it, learnt it, and did it. He even helped me in the deployment. And that, is How I Met My First Schwag T-Shirt.(I just won another one by participating in Hacktoberfest…thanks to DSC again)

Many people have asked me that why do I credit DSC for the things which I have learnt myself…for example I learnt Python by myself and etc. The reason is, before joining DSC, I was a guy who just knew Java and some data structures and was proud about the fact that I got 96 in Computer in ISC. I thought I knew a lot of stuff for my age.But DSC is the place which made me realize that I was wrong.I found out there are hella lot of talented people,…way more talented than me……and that there is so much stuff yet to learn. So I started to learn….learn so that I can master many new skills and become the type of developer I want to become(And the richest man on the planet…Wait? Why are you laughing?).In short, if I have never joined DSC, I would have always remained a person who thought highly of himself, and would have never started to learn the things which I have learnt.DSC gave me the initiative to learn new things.

The past two-and-a-half months in the club had been wholesome. There were times when the sessions and our clashed with each other(Caught in a landslide!), but Piyush bhaiya solved it with just one statement,“DSC is more important than classes”. I have made many, many new and awesome friends in the club and…uhhh…..a few enemies too(No escape from reality!!). Besides learning new things like Git, Android Studio, Web Scraping, ML, the most thing I learnt is that there is always something new to learn no matter how much you learn…so just keep on learning with open mind, help others, share your ideas with others, and keep on having a positive outlook(Open your eyes, Look upto the skies and see!).

And May the Source be with everybody in DSC!!(This one’s for Shuvam Bhaiya)

The best thing about today is that its not yesterday.
