The pain it takes to win…
Winning is painful. Winning means you are gaining something. To much who is given, much is expected. So pain is a part of the price that molds you for life. The blessing is hidden in the pain.
A winning mindset is mental, physical and emotional (mind, body and soul). Pain is the driver of what it takes to get you prepared for the “season”. Seasons change, the only thing that is constant is change. A wise man once said “I am the vine and my father is the Gardner. He cuts off every branch that bears no fruit, while every branch that bears fruit he prunes, so that it will be even more fruitful.” That’s painful!
Physical pain can be waking up at dawn for early weight lifting sessions, running in hot or freezing weather, and pushing your body to its limit. This is how you get bigger, faster and stronger. This is how you get better. That’s painful.
Mental pain is the anxiety you feel when you want something so bad, but you can’t control the situation. Your patience is tested. Doubt creeps in. And you allow your thoughts to control you, even the ones that are not real. It’s a part of the pruning process. That’s painful.
Emotional pain is the one we tend to avoid. We think it’s dangerous and FEAR (False, Evidence, Appearing, Real) it. Emotional pain makes you vulnerable and uncomfortable. It wants you to avoid and not to attack. And you forget that your a warrior. Your best friend is fear. He keeps you humble and reminds you that the game is bigger than you. Fear teaches you to anticipate; an amazing gift. He fuels your spirit. He forces you to be in the present moment, which is all you have. He forces you to dig deep. You stare at him and you smile back. He can either paralyze or enhance your game. The option is yours! That’s painful.
Winning is inevitably painful. There are no short cuts. Pain is a part of the winning process. So when you win, embrace and be humble to it, because winning is hard.
