In 2023, Reddit boasted about its 330 million users — with such a massive amount of users, you HAVE to match someone’s taste 😉. On Reddit, it is easy to target your audience according to very specific interests thanks to threads (we’ll get into that later).

Although it is a goldmine of opportunities, it is not easy to get on Reddit for the first time, even if you are an Instagram or TikTok expert. Furthermore, you will need to invest some time and effort if you want to avoid being banned, and to access to interesting opportunities.

I. Reddit’s main features

Subreddits, also called “subs” or referred to by their literal title (r/cats, r/ContentCreators). Think of it like a Facebook group, which allow people with similar interests to exchange. SubReddits can be public, private (only approved users can view and post), or restricted (anyone can view but only approved users can post).

Flairs are like tags. It’s a quick way to categorize and identify posts and comments on Reddit, it can also be used to indicate the topic of a post (🏷️promotion), the type of content it contains (🏷️moderator announcement), or the tone of the post (🏷️venting).

Karma points are like upvotes. They are crucial for getting visibility and credibility. Higher karma levels grant users preferential placement in the platform’s algorithm, prioritizing their posts for broader visibility. It is also a measure of trust: it gives you more credibility, and other users will be more willing to upvote and engage with your content. Finally, in some subreddits, achieving a certain karma score gives you access to special features such as link posting or poll creation. You get them by posting good content, by asking relevant questions or by commenting other’s posts.

II. How to find and choose a subreddit ?

Engaging within a relevant subreddit can gain you some Karma, and it is an efficient way to reach your target audience.

Start by looking for relevant subreddits. You can start with some public repository like this one. To go further, you can use Reddit’s search bar and enter niche-related keywords (your target audience’s interests, such as feet pics or asian babes) or platform-related keywords. Another way to find subreddits is to search for creators in the same niche as you, and see where they post. Avoid subreddits created solely for promotion, because they are full of content creators, not of fans.

Make sure it is active by checking the number of members, the engagement on recent posts, and the date the last posts were published.

Last but not least, before posting anything, read the subeddit rules carefully. Some subreddits do not allow self-promotion, thus are not a relevant place to convert fans to your creator page ! Do not try to play with fire because if you violate any rule, moderators will be ruthless and they won’t hesitate to ban you without a warning.

III. 3 tips for posting on Reddit

Write appropriate titles. Captivate attention with engaging and informative titles that accurately reflect your content. Avoid clickbait or misleading titles that could lead to disappointment. Utilize relevant keywords and phrases that align with the subcategory’s focus to enhance search visibility.

Optimize posts for Reddit’s search engine algorithm by using relevant keywords in the text, but also in the title and the meta-description. It is better to embed them naturally, instead of engaging in “keyword stuffing” and repetition, which makes you look spammy and may impact your ranking.

To finish, a few etiquette rules: be respectful and polite if you ever engage in debates; flag your NSFW content as such; do not promote yourself by commenting on other creator’s posts ; besides self-promotion, think about providing value to the community.

I hope that now, you understand Reddit a bit better. It may seem like the platform is quite complex and unforgiving — but trust me, once you get the hang of it, Reddit is quite fun and easy as a promotion tool.

Keep up the good work,
