10 Tips To Help Grow Your Channel
One of the most common questions #TeamOctoly gets from our users is how to grow a YouTube channel. Since we want all of you to succeed, we’ve come up with 10 quick tips on how to grow your channel, and we hope you find them helpful. Check them out, and let us know if you have anything to add in the comments below!
Upload good quality videos.
Let’s face it, standards have changed since the beginning of YouTube, and to stay relevant, you have to ensure you’re working with what you’ve got. We recommend investing in a high quality camera that shoots in HD, as well as lighting your videos properly and getting to know your editing software well.
Use high quality lighting.
Although studio lighting like a Diva Ring Light or soft boxes would be ideal, you don’t always have to spend a ton of money to ensure your videos are well-lit. Simply sitting in front of a window can often do the trick!
Upload consistently.
We know you have a busy life, but if you can commit to uploading a certain number of times per week, your subscribers will really appreciate it! Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is a popular uploading schedule, but even if you can only upload once a week, stick with it and let your viewers know when to expect your videos.
Build relationships with fellow YouTubers.
Collaborating with YouTubers is a great way to build your audience, grow your channel, and of course — have fun! Collaborations are great because they enable you to share audiences with another vlogger, and you also get to learn their tricks of the trade!
Utilize your social media platforms.
You don’t need to sign up for every single social media platform out there, but if you’re really good at a few of them, make sure to incorporate your channel into your posts! If you are a master tweeter, update your followers frequently. If you’re awesome at Instagram, make sure that your feed reflects your latest videos. If you enjoy many different platforms, don’t be shy! Cross-promotion is super helpful at getting the word out about your videos.

Create professional thumbnails.
The branding of your channel is super important, and your thumbnails are the first thing a viewer sees before clicking on a video. Make sure to make these eye-catching enough to draw people in! We really like using PicMonkey or Canva, but more advanced users may benefit from putting their Photoshop skills to good use, too.
Use keywords in titles.
YouTube is the second biggest search engine on the web after Google, so keywords matter! Make sure to plan out your video titles carefully, and include the keywords in them so people can find your videos.
Create trending videos.
You don’t need to be just like everyone else, but creating trending videos can help get your name out there by attracting people to your channel. Trending videos come in a variety of forms, from tags to hauls, and tutorials featuring hot, buzzworthy makeup products.
BE YOURSELF!
It’s easy to force yourself into becoming a carbon copy of your favorite popular YouTuber, but to really be successful, you have to be yourself! Viewers want to see original personalities and videos, not the same old thing as they’re used to. Embrace your originality and show off your quirky side! That is what will get you noticed and ultimately help you gain an audience.
HAVE FUN!
YouTube isn’t meant to be a full-time job for everyone. It should start as a hobby, and as something you really enjoy. If you’re not having fun, your viewers will see right through your act and tune out. Make sure that you’re putting out content you enjoy, that you would want to watch, and that you’re really proud of!
