Tires are automobiles/bikes as legs are to humans. Tire inflation is important for the safety, longevity, and convenience of the car. The impacts of proper tire inflation (or lack thereof) can be classified into a few pieces.

Underinflation: Underinflated tires lose their threads faster and become flatter. This results in the road’s surface and tire making more contact than necessary. A phenomenon like this will cause premature wear to tires’ shoulders i.e., the sides. Another adverse effect is cost. Rockford Mutual mentions in an article that underinflation can reduce the lifespan of a tire by 25%. Underinflated tires will need more frequent replacement and overuse the fuel. It is like money down the drain. Even scarier is the fact that it reduces control of the steering wheel, which is a vital safety concern.

Overinflation: Overinflation is when tires have more pressure than recommended by the manufacturer. Doing this will result in unwanted rigidity of the tire in a short span of time. Opposite to underinflation, overinflated tires make less contact with the road than ideal. Overinflated tires will become stiff and rigid, reducing the tire’s contact surface. This results in unwanted bumps during the drive which is inconvenient and unsafe. Furthermore, it also leads to faster wear of the tire centers. In either case, you lose both money and convenience.

Braking Hazard: This comes as a byproduct of underinflation. If the tires are not sufficiently the tire will make more contact with the road. This raises the probability of your brakes failing. Even if the brakes work, they would not work to their full potential making. Emergency stops are almost impossible and raise the chances of collisions very high.

Fuel Inefficiency: If your car’s tires are not properly inflated, fuel economy is suffers. Not only does this have an adverse effect on the wallet but also on the environment.

In a comprehensive article from the Burt Brothers, they delineate a list of best practices to avoid such hazards. They recommend that the pressure should follow the manufacturer’s manual. A further suggestion is to check the pressure of the tires every morning in PSI. They recommend every driver equip themselves with a high-quality gauge. You can avoid safety hazards, and meaningless expenses by keeping a high-quality tire inflator. This saves money in the long run.
