Annoying notification!

Mobile characteristic part 2

Tzzz… Tzzz… Tzzz… again and again notification get into my gadget. Not even a minute, again notification is coming. It came from Gmail, Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook, Path and the ridiculous spam ads. And a lots of application occasionally give notification to my gadget.

This is happen on me when I was doing a lot of thing on my gadget. One day when I was watching standford lecture video on youtube, I get email notification from gmail, and I know that incoming email is not important, so I neglected. About a minute later, incoming notification Whatsapp from my group discussion, I need to check it. After that proceed in watching youtube, however about half minute, I get another notification from my friend at twitter who mention me about something. Not long after that I get phone call from my friend. And it completed ruin me not getting focus from the lecture.

Now, we get one more of characteristic of mobile device, it is distraction. It become property and attribute of mobile. Unlike connectivity as also one of mobile character, distraction has to be consideration and minimize in developing mobile app. Distraction should be paid with convenience way of app.

What is convenience way of app? An emotional design and a simple (one-handed) handling guarantees a high acceptance. A good App can do its job in different contexts and fast varying situations such as changing environmental light and noise, unsteady movement of the device, etc. And it is no easy to get such usability, it must be planed with care to create a fitting and joyful interaction flow. Analyzing the users’ needs and creating a useful idea out of it is still essential.
