In 2010, there was a popular app, foursquare — it is a location based social network. At that time, it was something cool. At that time, location “check in” was something fresh. It use GPS which is only used by GPS tracker. While OpenStreetMap, Google map and other map provider were raced in building map completeness. Combination of emerging smartphone built in GPS hardware and map technology is a perfect space to build a product. At that time, foursquare found it. :)

in 2011, there was a popular app, Waze — it is GPS-based geographical navigation application program for smartphone which provides turn-by-turn information and user-submitted travel time and route details. Not only use location functionality but also give more experience to interact with others in giving important information on the street. Waze succeed to increase experience in localization.

in 2013, there is a popular game that using location based — Ingress. Ingress is an ultra-futuristic, massive multiplayer augmented reality game set in the physical world and powered by smartphone GPS. When maps technology mature enough to make more live, real-time game enter the space. Ingress found its space.

More, more and more mobile app use localization as key strengths. Now, we get one more of characteristic of mobile device, it is localization. It become property and attribute of mobile. Pull out this characteristic by increasing experience to maximum is a must to produce good app.
