User Experience: Cinema 21
In this post I’ll review a mobile application named Cinema21 which is an app of the famous cinema in Indonesia. Long time before this app launched, users who want to know the movie schedule or order tickets online have to open the official website of Cinema 21 which contains more contents besides these two purposes. The website making the user difficult to find schedules or order tickets, because the focus is divided with other contents like news or other promotions. And nowadays, many people have been using smartphones, in order to perform various mobile activities using applications on one device only. Based on these considerations, I have to say that the main use of this app is to allow users to know movie schedule and order tickets online instantly.
The first thing user see when opens this app is a page that have dominant display of movie posters and titles. Dominant movie posters are very interesting and make it easier for user to select movies, especially those playing movies, because ‘Playing’ is the main menu displayed when the app opens. Seen below there are 4 menu options consisting of Playing, Coming Soon, Theater and M-Tix. M-Tix is used for order tickets online. Those 4 options are very nice and make it easier for user to choose the type of use in the beginning by displaying title of the options, beside icons that might not be understandable by the user. At the top, just below the logo of Cinema 21, there are also 4 menu options consisting logos of Movie Card to get information about Cinema 21 card, IMAX and Dolby Atmos to choose the type of the cinema, and also a city location which can be used to get theaters in the chosen city.
The interesting part of this app is when user want to see a movie but the user have no idea where, the user can choose the movie and there will be a ‘Playing At’ menu below the title, so the user can see a list of theaters where the movie is played. Not only that one, but also when user choose a theater, there will be a list of movies played there and also the movie schedule. And the schedule itself is great, user can see the difference of the color in the time options, the blue one represents schedule of movies that can be watched, because the black one represent schedule that has passed. So it’s easy for people who are willing to watch a movie without looking the time at that time.
When you see it, there is an icon at the top right of the page. That is where user can see more informations or actions about the page, like share the page, add movie to favorites, and many more. The icon looks small and not really get the user attention, maybe because it’s not the main purpose of this app.
So sorry I can’t give review about the page for order tickets online, because I’m not using M-Tix:(
